1991 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER CLASSIC

image217

"McQUEEN" RANGE ROVER CLASSIC

The Land Rover Range Rover Classic revolutionized the auto industry in the 1970’s with the launch of the Range Rover. No one had ever before seen such an outstanding 4x4 vehicle. Style, comfort, speed, outstanding off road as well as on road ride to the highest level and was so ahead of its time so it stayed in production for 25 years, almost unchanged to its original principles. During its lifespan the Range Rover Classic developed from a luxury Land Rover for the farmer to a high-tech powerhouse in the SUV market. The Range Rover is generally regarded as the world’s first truly luxurious SUV. If you’re looking for a simple, classic design that’s aged tastefully – a two-door is absolutely beautiful and timeless. A Range Rover Classic is one of the nicest and most useful vintage automobiles out there, and many in the vintage and classic car world have pegged the two door Range Rover Classic to be serious investment vehicles.

Here is a great example of a 3 door Range Rover Classic, a true time capsule. One owner since new and it has spent all its life in sunny Lyon in the south of France. Its covered only 106km, which is just over 65,000 miles, which is very low. Packing the efficient 2.5 Liter VM Turbo Diesel engine which was designed and built by OEM supplier VM Motori of Italy. This Range Rover has more than enough grunt and power to feel very comfortable around town and on the highway. Its surprisingly quite zippy compared to the other Land Rover power plants. You can cruise comfortably at and above highway speeds without compromising comfort with great gas mileage. The interior is clean and very original, the tan/brown cloth interior presents beautifully. The two-door body style turns heads wherever it goes and is a true classic.

"HANK" (The Tank) DEFENDER 90

This Defender 90 is finished in Land Rover Epson Green. It’s a beast and a one of a kind unique Defender 90. Kitted out with all the upgrades and extras you need. Starts, stops, runs and drives very well. Equipped with the coveted and sought after 200TDi power plant and five speed manual transmission. Original bulletproof factory turbo diesel engine that sports an inter-cooled boost efficient design, superior to the older versions. It’s a brute all round, with a good bulkhead, crossmember and chassis. All doors ares complete and solid. It’s a monster of a Defender! Ready for anything, daily driver, mud crawler, 4x4 off roading or garage queen.

Get it into the rough and tough stuff off road and this Defender really comes into its own. The purpose built suspension is well controlled and comfortable, but when combined with the oversized tires it gives astonishing capability in all terrain. With the Defender's AWD system and with the additional ground clearance, it will get you over or through anything you can't drive around! It's a serious, no nonsense built D90. Mechanically sound and set up for adventure, all the important upgrades and accessories have already been heavily invested into this beast. It merely needs a new owner who is ready to enjoy and use this Defender. It shows your usual age related wear, marks, dings and bushwacker scratches that come with it being an original and unrestored Land Rover.

"MONTY" LAND ROVER 110

We have the privilege of offering this very unique 1988 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Country Station Wagon with a 5-speed up for sale. Affectionately named “Monty”, this 110 is finished Land Rover Chamonix white. Very clean inside and generally in original and in unmodified condition throughout. This 110 is in good running and driving condition. The 110 (technically pre-Defender before 1990) starts easily and runs smoothly. The engine sounds lovely and pulls strongly like a beast of a V8 should. The vehicle’s road manners are what you would expect from an old Land Rover. The suspension feels tight and well sorted, steering and braking perform to satisfaction, as they should. The engine keeps perfect temperature and excellent oil pressure at all times. Overall this Land Rover is in good condition and operates exactly as it should. 1990 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90

image389

"HUNTER" DEFENDER 90 SOFT TOP

Presenting “Hunter”, a very tidy 1990 Land Rover 90 soft top with a 2.5 petrol (gas) engine with only 62k miles, finished in Land Rover Tonga Green metallic with a deep shine. This is a retired Ministry of Defense vehicle - hence the low miles and minimal use - It was released to the civilian world in 2014 and owned by Ray Hunt of R Hunt 4x4 specialist, until now. All panels are original and still show the factory spot-welds on every panel, the panel work is very straight, door tops are all solid, rear tailgate is excellent and overall this is a very straight example. The soft-top is in very good condition as well as the actual framework of the soft top. The Land Rover Freestyle alloys have been refurbished in Tungsten Silver and wrapped in BFGoodrich tires. The interior is in excellent shape for a nearly 29-year-old land rover; the seats are in good condition with all gauges, speedo, lights, wipers, horn, heater etc, all work, as they should. The engine starts instantly hot or cold and runs very smoothly and is very quiet; being a gas 2.5 engine it’s very smooth and hushed unlike its diesel brothers. It cruises lovely at 50-70 mph and the idle purrs like a kitten. Some recent service work include: new front brake discs and calipers, poly bushed suspension arms, LED reverse lights and a new carburetor. Overall, you would think this is a much newer model from its tidy appearance and unique history. Meet our 1990 “Hunter” 90.

This 90 has a very unique and distinct history - being owned most of its life by the Ministry of Defense (MOD) up until 2014, based at Porton Down MOD Science Park near Salisbury in Wiltshire, England. It is home to two British government facilities and the 7,000-acre site is one of the UK's most secretive and controversial military research facilities and the oldest chemical warfare research installations in the world. Scientists from Porton Down were among the first to create biological weapons as well as one of the world's most lethal chemical weapons, but now its main purpose is to support the military and help combat terrorism. Porton Down opened in 1916 as the War Department Experimental Station for testing chemical weapons during WWI. Scientists at the lab researched and developed weapon agents used by the British military during the war, such as chlorine, mustard gas and phosgene. After the war the government decided that work should continue at the site and by 1930 it had grown and developed into the Chemical Defense Experimental Station. During WW2 research concentrated on chemical weapons like nitrogen mustard and nerve agents such as Sarin. It then led to the development of CS (tear gas) and VX nerve agent in 1952, one of the most lethal substances ever created which results in a painful death. Luckily, we don’t think this Land Rover was used in any scientific experiments, but used for light transport around the base - hence the low mileage. Either way, the history this Land Rover encumbers is pretty cool and comes with a very interesting past.

Engine FYI

image456

Defender 200Tdi Engine

Years produced: 1990 - 1994

Power: 107hp (80kW)

Torque: 188lb/ft (255N/m)

Fuel: Diesel

Capacity: 2495cc (2.5 liters)

image457

The 200Tdi was one of the first mass-produced small-capacity direct-injection diesels, with the attendant improvements in power and efficiency that system brings. The 200Tdi name derives from the bhp it provided in the Discovery 1 (the true figure was actually 195 bhp), T for turbo, D for direct injection, and I for intercooled. The 200Tdi was Land Rover’s first direct injection engine and producing efficiency and emissions gains at the expense of combustion noise. The new aluminum cylinder head helped with combustion noise while its lighter weight helped emissions levels. A new Bosch injection system gave improved running characteristics and better starting. The improved Garrett T25 turbocharger provided boost pressure but, this time, boosted air was fed via an intercooler, adding further to combustion efficiency to provide increased performance and/or fuel economy according to the driver’s approach.

image458

The 200Tdi engine was fitted to the Defenders in late 1990. It has established its self in the Land Rover community as one of there best engines for its versatility and robust nature. It has as a powerful and long-lived unit that with proper maintenance can exceed 300,000 miles. Which hs made this a highly desired engine over the years. Its simplicity and ease of maintenance as well as being powerful and economical makes it ideal vehicle for off road adventures and to enjoy daily.

Many advantages include,

- Huge all round performance and mpg improvement
- Still fixable in the field

- DIY-friendly
- Unbreakable if maintained and driven properly

- Capable of more than a 300k+ miles
- If neglected and worn out, it’ll keep on going, smoking and rattling
- 27 to 30 mpg

- Maintain highways speeds 65-75mph
