Life’s too short to drive boring cars
This is a Defender 90 Heritage tribute which is correctly finished in Land Rover Grasmere green, matching 16” Wolf steel wheels and an Alaska white roof. For reliability in the harshest conditions, there's simply nothing that can beat the 300Tdi engine, with its turbocharged direct injection (Tdi) technology paired with the robust R380 5-speed manual gearbox, it provides improved economy with even greater power, torque, longevity, and reliability. To celebrate 67 years of production and the conclusion of the "Defender", Land Rover built a limited number of 2015 Heritage Editions. This Defender 90 was refurbished as a tribute to the 2015 Heritage Edition “HUE” Defender models. With its classic style and historical significance this is our homage and purpose-built tribute to the now legendary "HUE 166" Land Rover. For the original Heritage Edition, Land Rover turned to their inspiration, "HUE 166," the company’s very first pre-production vehicle, a Land Rover Series 1. It was in the summer of 1947 that Maurice Wilks (then technical chief of Rover) came up with the idea of a world-conquering vehicle to kick-start exports for the ailing Rover car company. The first of the prototypes rolled out of the factory on March 11, 1948. “HUE 166” affectionately called “Huey”. The small two-door off-roader registered with the license plate "HUE 166" in Britain kick-started the SUV that would keep in production to 2016.
While it retains the same boxy design and the overall features of a regular Defender, the Heritage Edition benefits from a host of unique exterior elements. First up is the Grasmere Green metallic paint job with color coded steel wheels, which is complemented by an Alaska White roof. As well as the silver front bumper with black bumper end caps, a bespoke front grille, clear LED light signals, body-colored headlamp surrounds, and body-colored Wolf steel wheels. Inside it’s as simple as you'd expect for an old Land Rover, with Exmoor Trim Techno cloth seats up front, four rear individual seats with belts in the cargo area, Exmoor Trim carpet and an elegant 3 spoke Mountney wood steering wheel. All lights, heater, wipers, and gauges work, as they should. On the outside it sits on Land Rover 16” steel wheels wrapped with General Grabber A/T tires which gives it some iconic styling. The chassis, bulkhead and doorframes all show in very good condition. This Defender 90 HUE 166 has timeless appeal, so you get the traditional ruggedness blended with some of the best heritage style.

Life’s too short to drive boring cars
This is a Defender 90 and is said to have spent years in France before it was imported to the United States. It was subsequently disassembled and overhauled, cosmetically, and mechanically in 2021. The exterior was refinished in Land Rover Santorini black; a Safety Devices roll cage, and an Exmoor Trim tan soft top were added. The 200Tdi 2.5-liter inline-four was also rebuilt, and an Ashcroft five-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case were installed. The brakes and suspension also were overhauled, and other features include a WARN front winch, aftermarket lighting, 16″ Land Rover Sawtooth alloy wheels, a rear spare carrier, individual rear jump seats, and a touchscreen stereo paired with an aftermarket sound system and a backup camera. During the restoration the D90 was disassembled before being refinished in black with a Safety Devices roll cage installed, a tan Exmoor Trim soft top, half doors with removable side windows, and a Puma hood. Other features include Fire and Ice side steps, a KBX grille and inserts, LED headlights, clear LED indicators, an NAS-style rear bumper with a step, and an aftermarket front bumper with integrated lighting and a Warn Zeon 8S winch. The black 16″ Sawtooth alloy wheels utilize 30mm spacers and are mounted with 305/70/16 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires, and a matching spare is located on a Mantec swing-away carrier at the rear. The brakes were serviced with replacement rotors, pads, and lines.
The left-hand-drive interior features high-back front bucket seats in Exmoor Trim grey vinyl, with four matching individual seats in the rear. The floors are covered with Exmoor Trim mats front and rear, and a Tuffy center console has been added along with a Webasto R134a-based air-conditioning system. A Sony touchscreen stereo with Apple CarPlay compatibility has been installed along with six speakers, an amplifier, a JBL subwoofer, and a backup camera. The six-digit odometer shows nearly 102k kilometers (63k miles). The 200Tdi 2.5-liter inline-four was rebuilt during the refurbishment, a procedure that is said to have involved replacement of the timing belt, water pump, valves, head gasket, radiator, intercooler, belts, rear main seal, and exhaust system. The fluids were changed, and an injector service also was performed. Power is delivered to all four wheels through an Ashcroft rebuilt five-speed LT77 manual transmission and an Ashcroft dual-range LT230 transfer case. The clutch assembly was replaced when the transmission and transfer case were installed. Overall, this is one sleek and stylish Defender 90 soft top ready to be enjoyed.
