1983 LAND ROVER - SERIES III

1983 Series III - "Hugo" - 2.25 Gas - Vintage Soft top

This is a 1983 Land Rover Series III (88), and it can do it all. We are delighted to present this handsome Series III for sale, it's the last model year before the introduction of the 90/110 and Defender models which were introduced in 1984 to present. The last of the last of the classic Series Land Rover model line. This 1983 Land Rover Series III is a 4x4 worthy of its go-anywhere heritage. A Series III like this is an unmistakable part of that lineage. No matter if it's a Rolls Royce, Jaguar or a Land Rover, everyone always loves the look of a British car in right-hand drive. So, you'll love the looks you get when getting out of the "right" side. This one looks ready for adventure at a moment's notice, with removable half doors, canvas soft top and a fold down windscreen. It's finished in a vintage Land Rover Pastel green and accented with a tan canvas soft top and Limestone steel wheels to finish off that vintage look. That's what makes this ole 1983 Land Rover so appealing. It stands out for the way it retains the look of a true explorer, right down to the details. Owning a classic 4x4 like this means getting the style just right. It carries that iconic Land Rover look, clean, sharp, and rugged.

It has an iconic feel with the thin, robust steering wheel, tall gearstick, retro gauges and proper red and yellow levers for four-wheel drive/low high range and freewheeling hubs. You can sit three across up front in individual-style seats. The rear compartment will accommodate several passengers or a ton of cargo, complete with two rear bench seats with lap belts. It looks highly original but has been wonderfully refurbished to a very high standard. It has been completely disassembled and been resprayed in its original and correct Land Rover Pastel green. The wheels have been sandblasted and sprayed in Limestone color. This Land Rover has all the right extras possible with Fairy overdrive (5th gear), freewheeling hubs, and more luxurious County Trim spec interior with door cards, door arm rest and cloth trim seats. On paper, the Land Rover Series III makes little sense. Yet, as an experience and automotive icon, nothing comes close; the undiluted spirit of adventure oozing from the panel gaps is second to none. The 2.25-liter "petrol" (gas) engine in this truck stays with the simple and reliable theme and is part of the robust tradition of durable Land Rover power. The 2.25L Rover 4-cylinder petrol (gas) carbureted motor starts well with a little choke, pulls the truck beautifully, and has a very smooth idle. Being a gas engine it's very quiet, unlike its diesel counterpart which can be rather clunky and noisy. It idles lovely and purrs like a kitten, just like a finely tuned gas engine should. Power flows back through a 4-speed gearbox with Fairy overdrive (5th gear), as well as a fully synchronized gearbox. The Fairy overdrive is a wonderful addition, acting like a 5th gear and dare I say it can cruise at 65mph on the highway, tried and tested! This one shows all the right signs of a good investment in keeping it looking stock and well maintained. This truck shows just 64k original miles. It's undergone a nice tune up with a fresh oil and filter change, new ignition leads, ignition coil, spark plugs, updated electronic distributor, all making it tick over nicely. To keep its heritage, it also comes complete with its original owner’s manual, service logbook, service records, all documenting many years of service history. So, you have a strong-running package that upholds the tradition of the hearty Land Rover Series vehicles. These have a fabulous vintage style and feel, right down to the solid sound of the doors closing. The adage “they don’t make them like they use to” sure rings true here with this classic.

The interior is pure substance over style, combining the Land Rover's utility and purposeful look with a few useful amenities to make it manageable in the modern world. The accommodations are bare because luxury was a luxury you couldn't afford in the middle of nowhere when on an adventure. Reliability was paramount and as a result, the interiors were made of durable, easy-to-maintain materials that would wear like iron. All the necessities are there, including comfortable Country Spec Moorland cloth seats, County trim door cars with pockets and a full array of instruments that are as close to basic as you're going to find. It even still has its original dial/twist radio to add to its classic charm. It's simple and was built to have a no-nonsense approach. Even the awesome hard top roof remains in great shape, and you'll love the added protection it provides. With the classic removable half doors, rear split tailgate and fold down windscreen you can turn this ole girl into the ultimate open top cruiser in no time. As well as a brand-new Exmoor Trim tan canvas soft top and galvanized frame set fitted now. You know it's time to fall in love with a well-done classic Land Rover. The manual is easy to use, and the 4-wheel-drive system is arguably the world’s best. All the original equipment remains intact to give you that genuine experience. With celebrity status of classic Land Rovers on the rise, it’s also now “ubercool” to own a classic Land Rover now as David Beckham has one. Pictured last summer, David Beckham in his very own pastel green Series III. Clean vintage Land Rovers are none too easy to find now a days, and if you appreciate the history of an old classic or need a museum or collector quality Land Rover or are looking for a vehicle that stands apart from the rest, this Series III will sure not disappoint. Especially for a buyer looking for a “Life's too Short to Drive a Boring Car".
